The Resume

    (June 9, 2013-August 8, 2016)
    Lifetime
    Created by Marc Cherry
    Left to right:
    Dania Ramirez (Rosie Westmore (Falta))
    Judy Reyes (Zoila Diaz)
    Roselyn Sanchez (Carmen Luna)
    Edy Ganem (Valentina Diaz)
Ana Ortiz (Marisol Deering (Suarez / Duarte))
Loosely based on the telenovela ‘Ellas son… la alegria del hogar’ (‘They are the joy of the home’)
Five Latinas of varying ages, each with their own goals and issues, work as maids for the Beverly Hills wealthy in the meantime

Why Devious Maids might be annoying:

    Nine executive producers?
If it seems to you that it borrows too heavily off Desperate Housewives, it’s probably not an accident.
Perhaps not surprisingly, it was originally created to run on ABC (they refused).
Sanchez and Ramirez are the only ‘maids’ not to be born stateside.
Though Ortiz plays the overall central character – a professor posing as a maid to investigate another maid’s death – she was not the first to be cast (Ramirez was).
In two seasons and a total of 26 episodes, only the ‘maids’ appeared in every single episode (though Reyes missed one in the first season).
Gee… Carmen Luna. Couldn’t have come up with a more boring or generic Hispanic name?

Why Devious Maids might not be annoying:

The pilot episode drew nearly 2 million viewers — not too shabby for any cable network, especially as the final episode of the season scored 3 million.
Unlike many sudsers, where supporting roles would be a long shot, the maids are the main characters.
Except for the pilot episode, filmed in Los Angeles, the series is filmed in Atlanta (well, it was a new network for them).
Many of the first-season episode titles referred to particular chores and tasks that might be required of a real maid.
Eva Longoria made her directorial debut here, in the second-season opener.
Comedienne Carol Leifer was the writer for a pair of second-season episodes.
Reyes and Ganem – the oldest and youngest of the Maids and far enough apart in age – play mother and daughter, respectively.
