Why Kid Nation might be annoying:

There were 40 children and only one adult — the host.
The town in which the children had to live for nearly six weeks was actually privately owned.
It was likened to ‘Lord of the Flies.’
It is not popular with the 18-30 age group.
There were the usual complaints about child labor law violations and the usual defenses of the producers’ activities.
For the most part, it was just like any other competitive reality show, except with school-age people.

Why Kid Nation might not be annoying:

Self-sufficiency was very much encouraged.
A first-place finish meant an Upper Class ranking, while second place meant Merchants, third place meant Cooks, and last place meant Laborers.
Unlike most competitive reality shows, all districts could partake in whatever rewards they won — if their combined performance met the terms of the Showdown challenge.
It showed just who was and wasn't willing to work.
A kid could elect to leave or stay at almost any time, usually taking it up at the town hall.
The first episode had only three commercial breaks.
