    He grew up poor.
    He is proud of his Brooklyn roots.
    He has a lively personality and good sense of humor.
    He can talk intelligently on countless subjects.
    Many feel his replacements at NPR haven't been as good as he was.
    He does an excellent impression of Sheldon Leonard.
