The Resume

    (October 1, 1966- )

    Soccer player turned politician

Milan (1995-2000), Chelsea F.C. (2000), Manchester City F.C. (2000), Olympique Marseille (2000-01) and Al-Jazira (2001-03)

African Player of the Year (1989,1994-95)
Ran for President (2005) and Vice-President (2011) of Liberia

Why he might be annoying:

He had four middle names (Tawlon, Manneh, Oppong and Ousman).
He was suspended for six games after he broke the nose of Portuguese player Jorge Costa in the players' tunnel after a game between A.C. Milan and Porto F.C. (November 20, 1996).
He claimed he had responded to racial taunts by Costa, but his allegations were not supported by witnesses, not even his A.C. Milan teammates.
He converted from Christianity to Islam and back again.
When his lack of education became an issue in the presidential campaign, he pointed out that he had a degree from Parkwood University -- an unaccredited diploma mill.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was raised by a grandmother after his parents separated during his infancy.
He was the first (and as of the end of 2011 only) African player to be named FIFA World Player of the Year.
Sports journalists voted him African Player of the Century.
He spent millions out of his own pocket to fund the cash-strapped national team so it could travel to matches abroad.
When he urged the United Nations to intervene in Liberia's civil war, the forces of rebel leader Charles Taylor burned down his home in Monrovia, stole his Mercedes and raped two of his cousins (1996).
He was named a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador (1997).
He has promoted immunization campaigns, AIDS education programs, and the creation of vocational schools where child soldiers from Liberia's civil war could learn new skills.
