    Birth name was Frances Anne Kemble
    Member of the Kemble theatrical family
    Notable roles included Juliet, Portia in 'The Merchant of Venice' and Beatrice in 'Much Ado About Nothing'
    Wrote the plays 'Francis the First' (1832) and 'The Star of Seville' (1837) and the memoirs 'Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation' (1863)

Why she might be annoying:

    Her first love was writing and she took to the stage solely for financial reasons.
    She married an American plantation owner, claiming she did not know the source of his wealth.
    After she returned to England and her acting career, her husband successfully sued her for desertion and won custody of their children for 10 months of the year.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was highly intelligent and independent.
    After seeing the conditions the slaves lived in on the Georgia plantation her husband inherited, she became an outspoken abolitionist.
    She was good friends with Henry James, who based the novel 'Washington Square' on a story she told him.
