The Resume

    (1995-1996)
    TGIF Mascots
    Howie, the red headed leader
Jake, the token African American friend
    Annie, the token female friend
    Stripes, the token pet dog
Appeared on plastic cups served with kids meals
T.G.I. Fridays was founded in 1965 in New York City
    Introduced loaded potato skins (1972)
Opened a restaurant in London (1987)
Opened a restaurant in Taiwan (1991)

Why they might be annoying:

They are some of the least remembered mascots in restaurant history.
Even Burger King's Herb got more notoriety.
In an effort to interest young kids dining with their parents, TGIF introduced these characters in their thirtieth anniversary year.
The characters were poorly defined and were too p.c.
The dog Stripes has spots and no stripes, but was named such because the TGIF servers wear Red and White Stripes.
The original TGIF (and some TGIFs to this day) have double decker telephone booths. This was done so guys in the lower level could look up at women who wore miniskirts and get an extra bonus.
Their restaurant and company policies were goofed on in the movie 'Office Space.'

Why they might not be annoying:

TGIF was the first casual dining restaurant with memorabilia hung on the wall, spawning many copycats.
All TGIF's have one authentic Tiffany lamp shade in their restaurants (it is the one hung upside down).
All TGIFs have a full size crew boat with a pair of sneakers and empty bottle of Dom Perron in it. The legend is that a coached trained her team to row better than they ever thought they could, but the day of the big race she was no where to be found. She left a bottle of Dom Perron with a note saying I got you this far, but you are a team and teamwork not the coach wins. This signifies that servers who work together in the end will make larger tips than those who work against each other.
Servers wore lots of buttons on their suspenders, called flair, and were ranked on who had the best flair.
The Riddles on the 'Library Logic' cup are:
What book has the most people in it?
    The phone book.
How is the plot of a mystery like making a pudding?
The both thicken as you go along.
Why did the boy eat an encyclopedia?
    He was hungry for knowledge.
    How do books keep warm?
    The have jackets.
What kind of building is the tallest?
A library, because it has the most stories.
