TV Series
Based on the way the tribes were divided, it could have been considered class warfare.
The Masaya tribe was referred to only as ‘White Collar’ during its time in the game.
When they tried to reshuffle and consolidate the tribes, all the old Blue Collars except Kelly remained on Escameca, and all the old No Collars except Joe remained on Nagarote.
They had to put up with Rodney getting angry whenever someone criticized his game play.
In fact, based on Rodney’s playing style as well as his accent, they could have very well called him ‘Boston Rod.’
The merged tribe was named Merica, as in ‘United States of `merica.’ (It’s *A*merica, people!)
Some castaways were initially misplaced: Hali and Sierra (graduate students) should have been with the White Collars, Will (a bartender) should have been a Blue Collar, and Vince (a counselor) should have been on the White Collar tribe, as well.
Nina was also, philosophically, a White Collar, but not actually.
Both Will and Dan ended up spending a lot of time apologizing to Shirin for their behavior towards her, and towards women in general.
‘Boston Rod’ also was caught making some sexist remarks on camera.
At the reunion, Jeff spent a lot of time channeling his inner Ryan Seacrest with respect to next season’s casting finalists, when he could have been talking more to this season’s cast, a majority of whom ended up not getting asked a single question!
The tribes were initially divided according to occupational category.
Producers only made Will a No Collar due to his success as a YouTube sensation, and Vince was grouped with the No Collars only because he made money selling coconuts!
Sierra was made a Blue Collar only because she competed in rodeo.
Nina left her white collar job to become an advocate for the hearing-impaired, hence her No Collar designation.
As for Hali being a No Collar? Well, not every graduate student is guaranteed to become a professional. (Right, Cochran?)
A Blue Collar beat out the White Collars and No Collars for the title of Sole Survivor.
At one Tribal Council, Dan became the first castaway ever to have extra voting weight, thanks to an advantage acquired at the Survivor Auction.
The cast for the very next season was announced live at the reunion show.
Also at the reunion, Jeff presented Rodney with a birthday cake, to make up for ‘Boston Rod’ missing out on a reward on his birthday—and every other time in the game, for that matter!
The three original tribes were each represented in the Final Three.
It concluded on the same night as David Letterman’s retirement from The Late Show.
