Why he might be annoying:

    He was instrumental in his son Eli's refusal to play for the San Diego Chargers.
    In his NFL career, he threw more interceptions (173) than touchdowns (125).
    He tried to get all of his sons to play quarterback at Ole Miss (Cooper and Eli did, but Peyton played for Tennessee).
    Ole Miss did not win a national championship or even an SEC championship while he was their quarterback.
    Despite being considered one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, he never appeared in the playoffs.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He's the patriarch of the Manning family.
    He was drafted out of high school to play major leagues baseball, but opted to go to college.
    When he was nineteen, his father committed suicide.
    After his father's suicide he wanted to quit college to get a job and take care of his family. His mother insisted he finish his education.
    His son Cooper's career was cut short by a spinal injury.
    He holds the Saints' records for total career yards and total career touchdown passes.
    He was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame (1989).
    He strongly supports both Peyton and Eli in their NFL careers.
    He graduated the University of Mississippi.
