Two time NHL All-Star (1994, 1999)

Why he might be annoying:

He refused to change his equipment to the team colors and wore plain white equipment throughout his career.
He wore the 1970's cage helmet which was plain white instead of the team colors.
His drab equipment has earned him the nickname 'Michelin Man.'
He was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets where he didn't get a chance to play due to the NHL lockout.
He led the Hurricanes to the league's worst record after leading them to the Stanley Cup Finals (2003).
He played so poorly he got demoted to Johnstown of the East Coast Hockey League the following season (2004).

Why he might not be annoying:

He led the Sharks to a major upset over the #1 seed Detroit Red Wings in the Western Conference Quarter-finals (1994).
He has a cult-like following in San Jose.
He is patriotic towards his homeland of Latvia.
He held many goaltending records for the Sharks which have since been broken by Evgeni Nabokov.
He helped lead the Hurricanes to an unexpected Stanley Cup Finals run in 2002.
After spending two seasons as a backup, he signed with Carolina and proved he was capable of being a starting goaltender, a position he held for three seasons.
