Why he might be annoying:

He was injury prone during the later stages of his career.
Despite his impressive credentials during his playing career, he has been snubbed by the Baseball Hall of Fame as of 2007.
He was screwed out of the 1987 American League MVP award despite putting up better numbers than the winner, George Bell.
He spent his final season on a Tigers team that finished with a 53-109 record (1996).
He guided the Tigers to a 43-119 record during his rookie managerial campaign.

He is considered a legend in Detroit.
He and Lou Whitaker started in the middle infield for 19 seasons prior to Whitaker's retirement.
He and Whitaker set the Major League record for most double plays turned in a career by a middle infield duo.
He recorded a 20+ game hit streak on two occasions in three seasons (1984-20, 1987-21).
He is the first player to record career home run 200 and career hit 1,500 in the same at-bat.
He served as the Cubs interim manager for four games during Lou Piniella's suspension (2007).
