Mid-seventies CBS TV series about a veteran LA beat cop starring George Kennedy
Based on the book by Joseph Wambaugh
Spinoff/sequel to the 1973 TV movie.

It didn't do well in the ratings and was cancelled after a season and a half.
The first season had a grim tone and was about the everyday life of a street cop but the second season lightened up and was more like an everyday detective show.
It's largely forgotten today.
There was no real pilot and no series finale to wrap things up.
Ratings-wise it was the most disappointing of the various 70's cop shows based on Joseph Wambaugh's books such as Police Story or Policewoman.

George Kennedy was beyond perfect for his role..
Tremendous detail was put into getting technical details; police equipment, procedures, etc, correct.
The supporting cast and guest stars were excellent and included up and coming stars like Robert Hayes<7792> and <12331>Howard Hesseman and Joseph Wambaugh himself made a guest-starring appearance.
The violence was kept within reasonable levels.
Its mid-season cancellation was a mild surprise as though hardly a major hit it had decent enough ratings.
