TV Series
    (October 2, 1961-March 24, 1989)
Versions included 'Password' (1961-1967, 1971-1975), 'Password Plus' (1979-1982), and 'Super Password' (1984-1989)
Aired on CBS (1961-1967), ABC (1971-1975) and NBC (1979-1982, 1984-1989)
Premise: contestants convey words (or 'passwords') to their partners by giving one-word clues
Teams consisted of one celebrity and one civilian
Hosted by Allen Ludden (1961-1980), Tom Kennedy (1980-1982), and Bert Convy (1984-1989)
Like Pyramid, there were multiple versions of the show.
Some idiots would accidentally give away the actual password while giving the clue.
The contestants would sometimes deepen their voices and put weird emphasis on the syllables while giving the clues.
In 1974, they went with an unpopular all-celebrity format.
They went back to having civilian contestants in 1975, but ratings continued to fall and the show was canceled as a result.
ABC destroyed most of the episodes of their version. Only a couple of episodes still exist.
The show lost a certain charm after Allen Ludden died.
It seemed like Betty White was on every other episode (probably because she was married to the host).
The game was successfully retooled on 'Password Plus' by having each password become clues to another password.
Allen Ludden first met his wife on the show.
It ranked fourth on TV Guide's '50 Greatest Game Shows of All Time.'
Many teachers would use the 'Password' home game to teach kids English.
It inspired similar shows, like ' Pyramid' and 'Snap Judgment.'
It aired on all three major networks.
Family Guy made fun of the goofy ways the contestants pronounced their clues.
