    Many of its residents wound up in financial peril as a result of Thomas Jefferson's decision to impose an embargo on trade with Canada and Britain.
    It is overshadowed by the likes of both Manchester and Nashua.
    It is named after Portsmouth, England.
    It was home to the Strategic Air Command's Pease Air Force Base, which would later be converted to the city's regional airport.
    Its downtown was successfully able to preserve its historical buildings.
    Its location along the Piscataqua River is home to some picturesque scenery.
    It was the first city in New Hampshire to allow protection for its city employees, regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.
