The Resume

    (December 25, 1929-January 25, 1976)
    Born in Kenner, Louisiana
Recorded 'I Like It Like That' (1961) and 'Land of a Thousand Dances' (1963)

Why he might be annoying:

The most memorable part of 'Land of a Thousand Dances' - the 'na na na na' hook - is not in his original version.
The song also fell 984 dances short of living up to its title.
His booking agent said, 'He would get so drunk he would forget the words to his songs. They used to throw bottles at him.'
He served three years in jail for statutory rape (1969-72).

Why he might not be annoying:

He began singing in gospel groups while working as a longshoreman.
'I Like It Like That' reached #2 on both the pop and R&B charts and got Kenner a Grammy nomination.
'I Like It Like That' became a top ten hit for the Dave Clark Five and 'Land of a Thousand Dances' became a top ten hit for Wilson Pickett.
