Why he might be annoying
His nickname was 'The Silver Fox.'
He was the first known player to sign a grossly inflated contract.
Many contemporary hockey fans fail to acknowledge his status as one of the greatest players of his era.
He spent the majority of his career playing for teams in smaller cities.
During his stint as Rangers coach, he once inserted himself into the starting lineup.
Why he might not be annoying
He is a member of 'Hockey's First Family' which saw his sons, Lynn, and Muzz and grandsons Craig and Dick become involved with the NHL in various capacities.
Following his retirement from coaching, the NHL named the Patrick Division (present day Atlantic Division) in his honor.
In honor to his contributions to hockey in the United States, USA Hockey named its award for outstanding service in his honor.
He was the first head coach in the history of the New York Rangers franchise.
