Portrayed the title role in ‘Martin Kane, Private Eye’ (1952-53)

Why he might be annoying:

He was typecast as a fast-talking reporter. (‘I should have quit paying newspapermen after three or four parts in the movies, but the money kept coming in and I liked it.’)
MGM dropped him from the movie ‘Viva Villa’ and tore up his contract over his behavior while filming in Mexico (1933). (According to the most colorful version of the tale, he urinated off a balcony onto the crowd below. The more likely story is that he responded to a heckler in the crowd with an obscene gesture, leading to an uproar when a local newspaper claimed Tracy had insulted the country.)
He was the third of four actors to portray Martin Kane in the TV series.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Army during both World Wars.
He received a New York Drama Critics Award for his performance in ‘Broadway.’
He was nominated for a Tony and an Oscar for ‘The Best Man.’
One critic wrote, ‘Even against co-stars like Jean Harlow, Lionel Atwill and John Barrymore, your eyes focus on Tracy and stay there.’
