The Resume

    (circa 1266-January 8, 1337)
    Born in Italy
Full name was Giotto di Bondone
Probably born in or near Florence
    Painter and architect
Painted the frescoes of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua
Designed the campanile (bell tower) of the Florence Cathedral

Why he might be annoying:

Little is known about his life.
His usual year of birth, 1266, is based on a poem stating that he died at age 70, but some scholars think 70 was used to fit the meter and not because it was accurate.
Other than the Scrovegni frescoes, almost every other work attributed to him is subject to dispute.
According to Boccaccio, he was the ugliest man in Florence.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was good friends with Dante and Boccaccio.
He is considered the first great painter of the Italian Renaissance.
John Ruskin said of his naturalistic style, 'He painted the Madonna and St. Joseph and the Christ, yes, by all means ... but essentially Mamma, Papa and Baby.'
The Giotto space probe to Halley's comet was named after him, because his 'Adoration of the Magi' features a Star of Bethlehem streaking across the sky, inspired by the comet's 1301 appearance.
