The Resume

    (circa 1160-January 18, 1213)
    Born in Georgia
    Sometimes known as Tamara
Daughter of King George III of Georgia and Burdukhan
    Co-regent with her father (1178-1184)
    Queen of Georgia (March 27, 1184-January 18, 1213)
Co-founded Empire of Trebizond with Alexios Comnenus

Why she might be annoying:

    She had a unibrow.
Her formal title was ‘king of kings’.
Her relationship with her first husband Yuri Bogolyubsky was rather tense.
She fired her father’s appointees who helped her father bring the nobles under his heel.
Her opposition to the karavi, a political system with legislative and judicial powers proposed by the nobles, nearly plunged Georgia into civil war.
She filed for divorce from Yuri, accusing him of drunkenness and sodomy.
Her second husband, David Soslan, was a family member, albeit from the Ossetian branch rather than from the Georgian one.
She hastened the downfall of the Great Seljuq and Byzantine Empires.
Her armies had a habit of conquering lands surrounding Georgia, sometimes in the form of revenge against the massacre of Christians.
The creation of the Empire of Trebizond was mainly an act of revenge towards the Byzantine emperor Alexius IV Angelus.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was the first woman to rule Georgia by her own right despite opposition from the aristocracy.
Georgia experienced a golden age under her reign, especially in literature and the arts.
Her first husband tried to plot two coups against her while she was in Constantinople trying to file for divorce, but was unsuccessful (1187-1191).
Her negotiations with Saladin to return Georgian property confiscated from monasteries were successful, and as a result, Georgian pilgrims were allowed to enter Jerusalem.
She was described as being ‘radiant as the sun and destined to light the world’.
