Religious Figure

The Resume

    (January 4, 1581-March 21, 1656)
    Born in Dublin, Ireland
Anglican Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland (1625-56)
Wrote 'Annales veteris testamenti' ('Annals of the Old Testament') which concluded that the world had been created October 23, 4004 BC

Why he might be annoying:

His uncle Henry preceded him as Archbishop of Armagh.
When Charles I offered Irish Catholics freedom of worship in exchange for their financial support, Ussher declared that allowing Roman Catholics to freely exercise their religion 'is a grievous sin.'
Young Earth Creationists still embrace his 4004 BC date for the age of the Earth.

Why he might not be annoying:

He entered Trinity College at age 13.
Although mocked today, his chronology was a serious work of scholarship in its time.
Even though he supported the king during the English Civil War, Oliver Cromwell granted him a state funeral.
