They divided the four tribes according to race.
They called it a 'social experiment,' but after only two episodes, they reshuffled and consolidated the tribes.
They never used the original tribes' full names.
They had to put up with Cao Boi's weird rituals.
They allowed castaways to mutiny, and sure enough, Candice and Jonathan jumped ship, from Aitu to Raro.
They unexpectedly started the jury with the 12th place finisher this time, much earlier than usual.
Raro was forced to vote out two members in the same Tribal Council.
Both Adam and Billy claimed a romance with Candace.
Neither Becky nor Sundra could build a fire during a Tribal Council tie breaker.
Jeff Probst had to intervene and give them matches to speed things up.
Even though Yul found the hidden Immunity Idol early in the game, it never got used.
Despite the controversy over dividing the tribes by race, it featured more diversity than previous cycles.
They started with 20 castaways in the game, two more than the previous high.
Raro suddenly outnumbered Aitu 8-4, due to the mutiny.
Despite this, Aitu won the remaining tribal immunity challenges, and after the mutiny, every player from Raro was voted out before anyone from Aitu had to go.
There were nine jurors, two more than ever before, this cycle.
There were three finalists, rather than two, sitting before the complete jury this time.
Yul became the first Asian-American to win Sole Survivor.
It had enough surprise twists to give M. Night Shyamalan a hard-on.
