The Resume
(January 8, 1958- )
Born in Holland, Michigan
Confirmed as U.S. Secretary of Education (February 7, 2017)
Former chair of the Michigan Republican Party
Sister of infamous Blackwater military security CEO Erik Prince
Why she might be annoying
She was born into one of Michigan's wealthiest families.
She was nominated for Secretary of Education despite never attending a public school, nor teaching at one.
Democrats fiercely opposed her support of school choice vouchers.
During her confirmation hearing, she couldn't give an answer as to whether a student's test score should be used to measure their 'proficiency or growth'.
For an education secretary, her official Twitter account featured a surplus of grammatical errors.
When asked if guns had a place in public schools, her response of guns being useful to 'protect against potential grizzlies' was heavily mocked.
Her confirmation vote was historic, as Vice President Mike Pence broke a 50-50 tie by casting a vote in her favor.
Why she might not be annoying
One of the titles she prides herself on: philanthropist.
She's incredibly popular among school choice advocates.
She claims she was not responsible for content on her Twitter account (so the errors were not made by her).
She graduated Calvin College.
She was considered one of Trump's weakest nominees, but withstood a tough test and won confirmation.
To be fair, rural schools in Wyoming have legitimate concerns over prospective grizzlies harming students.
