    Wrote the short story collections ‘Bad Behavior’ (1988), ‘Because They Wanted To’ (1997) and ‘Don’t Cry’ (2009)
    Noted for writing about controversial subjects such as prostitution, drug addiction and sadomasochism

    When she first went to community college, her writing skills were so bad, she had to take remedial classes.
    She has been a stripper and a call girl.
    She became a born-again Christian – for six months.
    She said, ‘I don’t think much of [the Marquis de] Sade as a writer, although I enjoyed beating off to him as a child.’

Why she might not be annoying:

    She ran away from home when she was 15 after her parents committed her to an asylum to break her ‘willful’ teenage behavior.
    She wrote about being raped at age 16 in the essay ‘On Not Being a Victim.’
    ‘New York’ magazine commented, ‘She managed to be an erotic writer without being, precisely, a sex writer.’
