The Resume

    (February 12, 1907-February 17, 1962)
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah
Portrayed Mr. Wilson in the TV series 'Dennis the Menace' (1959-62)
Appeared in the films 'Hard, Fast and Beautiful' (1951), 'Alice in Wonderland' (voice only, 1951) and 'Anatomy of a Murder' (1959)
Regular on the radio programs 'The Jack Benny Show,' 'The Mel Blanc Show' and 'Suspense'

Why he might be annoying:

He joined 'Rising Generation,' an all-child vaudeville troupe, when he was nine.
He did commercials for Rice Krispies in character as Mr. Wilson.
Ironically, the last 'Dennis the Menace' episode to air before his death featured Mr. Wilson making out a will and explaining that Dennis will inherit his gold watch when he dies.
His replacement, Gale Gordon, looked more like the Mr. Wilson of the comics than he did.

Why he might not be annoying:

He earned his tuition for the University of Utah by teaching a course on theatrical makeup.
He was one of old-time radio's most versatile and dependable actors.
He had good chemistry with 'Dennis' star Jay North.
He built a soundproof house around a 1929 vintage Wurlitzer organ that he restored.
