    Premise: A boy accidentally stumbles into a fantasy island where everything is alive and is run by an orange dragon

Why H.R. Pufnstuf might be annoying:

    It may be the closest thing to an acid trip without actually having one.
    The Kroffts continually deny the drug references, as if the psychedelic imagery wasn't inspired by any puffin' stuff.
    One episode featured magic mushrooms.
    The Kroffts were afraid of using Freddy the Flute, since he could've been considered too phallic.
    Some critics felt it was a cheap rip-off of 'The Wizard of Oz,' only a witch kept wanting a magic whistle instead of ruby slippers.
    It had an unnecessary laugh track.
    Despite the show's popularity, the Kroffts refused to make more than 17 episodes. This forced NBC and ABC to rerun those same episodes for years.

Why H.R. Pufnstuf might not be annoying:

    Mayor McCheese was so much inspired by this show, the Kroffts successfully sued McDonald's for plagiarism.
    It made the Kroffts a dominant force in 1970's campy children's television.
    It had several pop culture references.
    It inspired a movie adaptation with a guest appearance from Mama Cass Elliot.
    It is easy fodder for comedians and parodists.
    It was ranked #22 on TV Guide's '25 Top Cult Shows Ever!' list (2004).
    It helped prepare parents for the scariness that is Barney.
