Military Personnel
    (January 9, 1981- )
    Born in Oak Ridge, Tennessee
    Former U.S. Army Green Beret
Played football for the University of Texas (2010-14)
Long snapper for the Seattle Seahawks (2015)
Credited with inspiring Colin Kaepernick to kneel as a means of protesting the National Anthem - as opposed to merely sitting (2016)
He briefly pursued an acting career.
He was released by the Seahawks, in the pre-season, to make room for quarterback Jake Waters (Aug. 2015).
He was supportive of Colin Kaepernick's protest and then inexplicably turned on him, claiming that Kaepernick had 'shut him out' and not spoken to him in months.
He suggested that he had been brought in by Kaepernick to cool the blowback he was receiving for protesting at the time, even though he had tweeted a photo of the two standing together first.
He criticized Kaepernick after he admitted to not voting in the 2016 election but he, himself, had only registered for the first time in October of that year.
When he was asked about the rift at a presser, Kaepernick answered: 'I don’t do things for publicity stunts or anything like that ... For me, I also have a job right now that I’m very focused on, that I have to be fully engaged with the majority of my week [and] Those are things that – conversations and actions – will be something that I’ll be able to do more so when the offseason comes.'
He briefly trained to become a firefighter out of high school.
He worked as a relief worker in Sudan, building camps for refugees of the War in Darfur, in 2004.
He served six years in the Army and did multiple tours to Iraq and Afghanistan.
He was a stand-out player at University of Texas despite never having played the sport before.
He taught himself to be a long-snapper by watching videos on YouTube.
He did voice work for the Madden NFL 18 video game.
He co-founded an organization to aid military veterans in the transition to civilian life.
He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about the global clean water crisis.
Many are surprised to learn that the idea of kneeling during the National Anthem came from a military veteran.
He initially came to the attention of Kaepernick after he penned a heartfelt open letter critiquing the protest in the Army Times, prompting an invitation to meet and discuss things further.
He later explained: 'We sorta came to a middle ground where he would take a knee alongside his teammates. Soldiers take a knee in front of a fallen brother’s grave, you know, to show respect.'
