Why he might be annoying:

He wrote more than six thousand songs, about 300 of which were recorded and published.
‘The Battle of New Orleans,' one of his biggest-selling compositions of all time (Johnny Horton, 1959), was originally written with hundreds of verses.
He was a high school principal.
He was not initially interested in a musical career, preferring to use his material exclusively to teach history.
Most of his material centered exclusively on his home state, as if he had seen nothing beyond it.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had actually composed ‘the Battle of New Orleans' in the early 40s to indicate that it was not an event in the Revolutionary War but rather in the War of 1812.
His efforts in the 1950's and 1960's led to national river status for the Buffalo River in northern Arkansas.
He did not force his political views down people's throats (take note, U2).
Literally thousands of people visited his ranch home (12 miles west of Mountain View, Arkansas) annually.
The Jimmy Driftwood Legacy Project ™ was created to collect what even the University of Central Arkansas – the definitive authority on his life and career – did not have.
