Why she might be annoying:

She failed an audition for 'Major Bowe's Amateur Hour.'
She left the Met after repeated clashes with director Sir Rudolf Bing and never returned, not even as an audience member.
Beverly Sills said, 'That woman sings like a goddess and talks like a sailor.'
She allegedly told one conductor, 'You leave the singing to me and I'll leave the cocksucking to you.'

Why she might not be annoying:

Look magazine wrote, 'Note for note, her voice is perhaps the most flawless instrument as exists in the world today.'
She was successful in opera, jazz and blues.
She memorably stepped in for an ill Louis Armstrong at the Spoleto Music Festival in Italy (1959).
Her 'I've Got a Right to Sing the Blues' was considered the first successful classical crossover album.
