    Wrote the novels 'The Chapman Report' (1961), 'The Prize' (1962), 'The Man' (1964), 'The Seven Minutes' (1969), 'The Word' (1972), 'The Fan Club' (1974), 'The R Document' (1976), 'The Second Lady' (1980), 'The Almighty' (1984), 'The Seventh Secret' (1985), 'The Celestial Bed' (1987) and 'The Guest of Honor' (1989)
    With his son David Wallechinsky, wrote 'The People's Almanac' (1975) and two sequels
    With David Wallechinsky and daughter Amy Wallace, wrote 'The Book of Lists' (1977) and two sequels
    Total sales of over 200 million books

Why he might be annoying:

    He began smoking a pipe at age 15 because 'I wanted to look like a writer.'
    During a stint as a Hollywood screenwriter, he wrote the script for 'Sincerely Yours,' a godawful attempt to turn Liberace into a movie star (1955).
    One critic described his books as containing 'the most mechanical, unerotic sex scenes on record.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He served in Frank Capra's film unit during WWII, writing for propaganda and training films.
    The 'Book of Lists' series was manna for trivia addicts.
    He said, 'Writing a best seller instantly makes an author suspect in the eyes of the critics.'
    His daughter Amy said about his sales figures, 'There's the Bible and then there's Daddy.'
