Why Murder, She Wrote might be annoying
No one seemed to think it was suspicious that dead bodies turned up wherever Fletcher went.
Cabot Cove had the highest per-capita murder rate for any town in the US.
The Cabot Cove harbor scenes were shot at the Jaws lake from the Universal Studios tour. (As if the town wasn't dangerous enough already.)
For several episodes in seasons six and seven, Lansbury would show up at the beginning to introduce a mystery featuring a different sleuth, then disappear until the end, when she would wrap up the story.
Despite having been a hit for a dozen years, it won only two Emmys, in the minor categories of music composition (1985) and costume design (1986).
A real series of mystery novels were released under the Jessica Fletcher name (ghostwritten by Donald Bain).
Why Murder, She Wrote might not be annoying
The title was inspired by Agatha Christie's Miss Marple mystery 'Murder, She Said.'
In the early 90s, the producers successfully revitalized the show by moving Fletcher to New York, where she taught criminology, and emphasizing her career as an author, with the deadlines and problems that the profession can bring.
Lansbury was nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actress a record twelve straight years.
The Germans may have realized there was something suspicious about Jessica Fletcher: the German title of the show translated as the ambiguous 'Murder Is Her Hobby.'
