The Resume

    (October 12, 1944-May 29, 2006)
Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey
Won the US Open Pocket Billiards Championship (1970-73), the US Masters (1974,1976), the World Open (1976,1978), the World Series of Pool (1977) and the PPPA World Pocket Billiard Championship (1982-83)
Inducted into the Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame (1980)
Appeared in the film 'The Color of Money' (1986)
Best known to the public for performing trick shots in ads for Miller Lite

Why he might be annoying:

He began playing pool at age four and turned pro at 13.
    He was nicknamed 'the Miz.'
Despite his championships, he was unable to earn a living from pool until he made those Miller Lite ads.
Miller chose him over other pool players partly because his heft (225 pounds) made him look like a beer drinker.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was left-handed.
He taught high school history and geography.
His perfect 150-ball run at the 1976 World Open was likened by his opponent, Rusty Miller, to 'swimming the English Channel underwater.'
He called his first Miller Lite commercial, 'the thirty seconds that changed my life.'
