Why she might be annoying:

Much of her wardrobe is boys’ clothes from Gap Kids.
She is extremely reticent about her personal life, reportedly swearing the men she has dated to secrecy.
She writes at a painstakingly slow pace.
She has described starting a new book as tortuous, comparable to trying to bring Frankenstein’s monster to life.

Why she might not be annoying:

When she was a freshman, Willie Morris, a former editor of ‘Harper’s’ and the writer-in-residence at the University of Mississippi, greeted her by declaring, ‘I think you’re a genius.’
‘The Secret History’ has been called ‘the most celebrated first novel of the 1990s.’
She won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for ‘The Goldfinch.’
She said about her slow pace, ‘People say that perfectionism is bad. But it's because of perfectionists that man walked on the moon and painted the Sistine Chapel, OK?’
