Why he might be annoying:

He was knocked unconscious by a falling oxygen mask during take off of his Apollo craft during the Apollo-Soyuz project.
His accident was seen as an embarrassment in front of the Russians.
Two satellites on his STS-41-B mission failed to reach their proper orbit.
NASA was forced to retrieve the satellites during a later shuttle mission costing valuable mission time and funding.

Why he might not be annoying:

He holds two bachelor of science degrees and a Masters degree.
He has served his country as a jet fighter pilot with the Marine corp, the Marine corp reserves and the U.S Air National Air Guard.
His chance to walk on the Moon was lost when Apollo 18 was cancelled due to budget cuts.
He served as one of the CAPCOM which brought the Apollo 13 crew home safely.
Both the Vance Brand Municipal Airport and the Vance Brand Civic Center in Colorado were named in his honor.
