The Resume

    (June 26, 1988- )
    Born in Columbia, Kentucky
Birth name is Dakota Louis Meyer
Former United States Army staff sergeant
Deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, as a scout sniper with 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines (2007)
Came to national attention for his actions in Afghanistan during his second deployment in the Battle of Ganjgal in the Kunar Province with Embedded Training Team 2-8 (2009)
Received the Medal of Honor for his heroism in Afghanistan from President Barack Obama (Sept. 2011)
Co-Author with Bing West of 'Into the Fire: A Firsthand Account of the Most Extraordinary Battle in the Afghan War' (2012)
Became engaged to Bristol Palin, daughter of Vice Presidential Candidate, Sarah Palin (Mar. 13, 2014)

Why he might be annoying:

He shares a name with at least two teenage movie starlets.
He was served White House honey ale during his widely publicized 'beer with the President' on the White House patio.
He got involved in the heated culture clashes over the films 'Lone Survivor' and 'American Sniper.'
He differs from fellow Medal of Honor recipients Salvatore Giunta and Clinton Romesha, in that he does not shy away from being vocal on matters of policy (where the other two steer clear of making partisan statements).
He drew controversy when he stood behind a sign reading 'Fuc- you, Michael Moore' at a Veterans fundraiser, with crosshairs standing in for 'o's.
In response to an FBI warning issued that ISIS terrorists may use social media to track down service members and their families, he tweeted a defiant photo of himself in a bathrobe smoking a pipe, holding a sword, and reading the Marine NCO Handbook, with the caption reading 'wonder if any ISIS members want to drop by and join my book club' (Dec. 2 2014).
He filed a lawsuit against the New York City Fire Department when they refused to extend the application deadline for aspiring firefighters. A federal judge offered to give him a 24-hour extension, but he declined to apply (Sept. 2011).

Why he might not be annoying:

His hobby is desert road racing.
He is a powerful public speaker.
He was violently assaulted at a party in Columbia, KY (Dec. 2012).
His message to Michael Moore was in response to Moore's criticism of 'American Sniper,' in which he referred to military snipers as 'cowards.'
He dealt with PTSD after returning from Afghanistan and would later attempt suicide.
He is the first living Marine in 38 years to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor.
He is also the second youngest MOH recipient and only the third living recipient from Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom.
He received a call from the White House while on job at a construction site, confirming he had been approved for the MOH. He requested the call back on his lunch break (which they did).
During the Battle of Ganjgal, he infiltrated unknown territory under enemy fire, to search for three Marines and a Navy corpsman.
During the search, he personally evacuated 12 friendly wounded and enabled another 24 Marines/soldiers to escape being killed by the Taliban (rescuing 36 altogether).
He made the case in his book for his Army Captain William Sewell, whose Medal of Honor nomination was blocked due to military politics (he eventually was honored with the Medal in 2013).
He requested that his Medal of Honor ceremony be simultaneous with ceremonies in other locations being held for the four servicemen who had died during the Battle of Ganjgal.
