Why he might be annoying:

He was hard to control as a child, so his parents sent him to military school.
He left school to work on a sheep ranch at the age of 16. (1880)
His wife was 14 years younger than him.
He depicted most white women as non-sensual and Native American women as sensual.
Many of his wax sculptures are deteriorating because of changes done to them after his death.

Why he might not be annoying:

Many of his works depict events from a Native American standpoint.
His paintings also imply his keen observation of the social undercurrents of the Wild West and the clothing and equipment of cowboys and Native Americans.
His career as a painter was so successful that even a single small painting by him was worth over $10,000.
Despite his international fame, he continued to identify with the common people, favoring his friendship over his skills as an artist.
'Lewis and Clark Meeting the Flathead Indians' currently hangs in the state capitol of Helena, Montana.
