Why he might be annoying:

He was an alcoholic and cocaine addict.
He would disappear for weeks or months at a time.
He wrote a Lampoon piece: 'In Memorium,' about a fictitious senior who died, and used his own photo as the student.
He sold his share of National Lampoon in 1975 because he felt burned out.
As Stork, his only line in 'Animal House' was, 'Well what the hell are we supposed to do, you moron?'
During the filming of 'Caddyshack' he got physical with producer Jon Peters, putting him in a headlock.
At a 'Caddyshack' press conference, he showed up drunk and told everybody, included his parents, to 'fuck off,' then passed out.
Days before his death, he wrote about his girlfriend, 'Those days with her... were the best I've ever ignored.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He started National Lampoon, working 90-hour weeks, because he felt 'newspapers and magazines at the time were so stuffy and rigid.'
His manner of satire was groundbreaking.
'Animal House' was made for $2.8 million and took in more than $140 million at the box office.
He was close friends with Chevy Chase, Brian Doyle-Murray and Harold Ramis.
When Doyle-Murray asked him if his brother John could get a few days' work as a 'Caddyshack' extra, he said, 'Fuck it, let's make him a production assistant' (in all, four Murray brothers worked on the film).
He felt the 'Caddyshack' tagline: 'Some People Just Don't Belong,' described him perfectly.
Though it might have been a suicide, the coroner ruled his death was accidental.
Michael Keaton's character Doug Kinney in 'Multiplicity,' was sort of named after him.
