She moved to the Canadian wilderness thinking it would be an easy life, and was shocked when it wasn’t.
She and her husband were terrible pioneers, and eventually had to move to a town.
Margaret Atwood accused her of falsifying history for her (supposedly nonfiction) books.
She looked like Truman Capote in drag.

She had a good imagination and sense of humor.
She wrote children’s books.
Her accounts of pioneer life were extremely popular in their time.
She was a passionate abolitionist.
One of her children drowned.
She went insane at the end of her life.
