Head coach Mike Keenan's tough style of coaching rubbed many players the wrong way, which would eventually lead to All-Stars Brendan Shanahan and Bret Hull's ousting from the team.
Wayne Gretzky's tenure with them was considered a let down by some because they did not win a Stanley Cup.
Mike Keenan was fired after the 1995-96 season, a little while after Wayne Gretzky signed with the New York Rangers.

At one point in time, Brett Hull, Adam Oates, Brendan Shanahan, Scott Stevens, Al MacInnis and Curtis Joseph were all playing for the Blues.
They made Laura Branigan's 'Gloria' popular again.
