Why he might be annoying:

    He had an elbow injury which was never recovered after he fell off the parallel rings in a playground at 12 years old.
    Despite being born in the same town as Marty Furgol, they had no relation.
    It took him nine years to win a major championship in his pro golf career.
    He struggled and failed to win another major championship following his only U.S. Open victory.
    His performance in the 1956 Motor City Open was a disappointment.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He beat Gene Littler with a score of 284 (+4) to be the first golfer to win a U.S. Open on national television, which was aired on NBC.
    He did a demonstration of his unique golf swing.
    He contributed a 2-1 PGA Tour playoff record.
    He was enshrined into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame (1988).
    He was married to his wife Helen for 53 years until his death.
