Why he might be annoying
He briefly changed his name to Mike Bigga out of concern that 'Killer' could be deemed too threatening.
Only a handful of his songs have ever broken into the Billboard Hot 100.
In fact, his biggest hit was as a featured vocalist on OutKast's 'The Whole World' track, which peaked at number 19 on the chart and later scored a Grammy win.
He responded to the Ferguson riots by saying: 'I'm appalled that regular Americans are apathetic. I'm appalled that people choose to use the word thug as a code word for [the N-word].'
He had a tense exchange with Joy Reid over his decision to appear in an NRA TV ad, which led to an online feud between the two.
An episode of his Netflix show saw him boycott any-and-all items not manufactured by black businesses for an entire day - which included refusing to even talk to his radio interviewer because he was white (thereby begging the question why he was going on the guy's show in the first place).
Why he might not be annoying
He is a vocal advocate of black gun ownership.
He is one of the most respected rappers in the underground Hip-Hop industry.
He has encouraged African-Americans to support local black-owned banks to 'make an economic statement.'
He led a boycott of a local Atlanta restuarant after word spread of the staff's mistreatment of black customers (the location closed a month after the protest's end).
He was an early and vocal backer of Bernie Sanders' 2016 Presidential campaign and performed at several of the candidate's rallies.
He received a Grammy nomination for his 2018 single 'Chase Me,' after years of being underappreciated and overlooked by the mainstream.
His argument with The Breakfast Club's DJ Envy over the host's decision to send his kids to a private school over a public one went viral on social media, with many concluding Mike got the better of the host.
