    He released two eponymous albums.
    He was a child prodigy (show off!)
    He received international fame but when he tried to crack North America he was never successful.
    Many of his songs gained more fame in the United States being performed by other artists (for instance, 'Somos Novios' was reissued with English lyrics as 'It's Impossible' and becamePerry Como's signature song).
    He composed his first melody at the age of fifteen.
    He won a Latin Grammy in 2001 for his album 'Duetos.'
    He served as president of the Mexican Society of Authors and Composers.
    He is considered the premier Mexican romantic composer of the postwar era.
    He was integral to the success of Luis Miguel and the two had a successful (if sometimes contentious) collaboration.
    He received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in the United States in 2014. He was the first Mexican artist to be bestowed the honor.
    His songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as Elvis Presley,Frank Sinatra and Christina Aguilera.
