    A blue flower from his incomplete novel 'Heinrich von Ofterdingen' was adopted as a symbol of the German romantic movement.
    He influenced the German writers Herman Hesse, Rainer Marie Rilke and Thomas Mann.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson referred to him as 'the ardent and holy Novalis.'
    He wrote, 'Poetry heals the wounds inflicted by reason.'
