The Resume

    (1949- )
    Born in Springfield, Massachusetts
    Birth name was Cheryl Boone
    Public relations executive
Promoted the films 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' (1977), 'Love at First Bite' (1979), 'Porkys' (1981), 'The Right Stuff' (1983), 'Forrest Gump' (1994), 'Braveheart' (1995), 'Boogie Nights' (1997), 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me' (1999), 'The King's Speech' (2010) and 'The Artist' (2011)
President of Theatrical Marketing for New Line Cinema (1997-99)
First African-American (and third woman) to be President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (2013-17)

Why she might be annoying:

She originally wanted to be a musical theater star, ‘But my relatives said, ‘Oh yeah, what part are you going to play? You’re not as pretty as Lena Horne and you can’t sing as good as Ella.’’
She angered show business veterans with a plan to revoke the voting rights of Academy members who have not been active in the film industry for an extended period of time.
Ironically, she was head of AMPAS when the #OscarsSoWhite protests hit during two consecutive years that produced no black nominees in the acting categories (2015-16).

Why she might not be annoying:

She was the first black woman to head a studio marketing department.
As AMPAS president, she got a long-time cap on the number of members removed, allowing her to recruit over 600 new members and make the Academy less of a bastion of old white men.
She was named to the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame (2014).
She said, ‘Being an African-American woman didn’t hold me back exactly. I guess if I’d been a white female I would have moved faster, and if I’d been a white male I would have moved twice as fast.’
