The Resume

    (December 23, 1935-November 13, 2020)
Played college football for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1953-1956)
Played professional football for the Green Bay Packers (1957-1967)
    Two time College Football All-American (1955, 1956)
    Heisman Trophy Winner (1956)
Three time NFL scoring leader (1959, 1960, 1961)

Began working on radio and television in 1967
Worked for Notre Dame television, Notre Dame radio, CBS and ABC
Elected into the College Football Hall of Fame (1985), NFL Hall of Fame (1986), Wisconsin Hall of Fame, Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame and National High School Hall of Fame

Why he might be annoying:

His nickname is 'The Golden Boy.'
    His head is immense.
Notre Dame went 2-8 the year he won the Heisman.
He was suspended by the NFL for betting on his own team, the Packers (1963).
He believes that Notre Dame needs to lower it academic standards so that more black athletes will be able to play for its football team.
He said: 'We can't stay as strict as we are as far as the academic structure is concerned because we've got to get the black athletes. We must get the black athletes if we're going to compete.' Only the black athlete can be able to win big football games. You can have every great white athlete there is, but if you don't have the black athlete, you can't win.'
    Jimmy the Greek, anybody?
He feeds into the racial myth that the black is the superior athlete and inferior academically.
Notre Dame released a statement saying: 'We strongly disagree with the thesis of his remarks. They are generally insensitive and specifically insulting to our past and current African-American student-athletes.'
He said that what Notre Dame needs to do is 'raid the South' and start recruiting from Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is the only person to win the Heisman Trophy while playing for a losing team.
He played for both the basketball and football team while at Notre Dame.
He graduated Notre Dame with a degree in business administration.
He was the first overall draft pick in the NFL 1967 draft.
He holds the record for most points scored in one NFL season, with 176 (1960).
He helped the Packers win four championships.
Vince Lombardi called him 'the best clutch player I've ever seen.'
He apologized for his boneheaded comments, saying: 'I didn't say anything that I thought would be offensive. That's not what I intended.' and 'I was wrong. What I should have said is for all athletes it is really tough to get into Notre Dame.'
He graduated the University of Notre Dame.
