Why he might be annoying:

He mainly appeared in television movies.
Early in his career he was typecast as an angry young man and later was typecast as an angry old man.
He sometimes lost his temper on the set of 'The Prisoner' and fired directors, taking over the duty himself.
Some 'Prisoner' fans found the final episode so unsatisfying that they sent him death threats.
The deliberately surrealistic and confusing final episode caused such an uproar that he had to leave England for 20 years.
He appeared as different characters on two episodes of 'Columbo.'

'The Prisoner' is regarded as a cult classic and remains popular to this day.
He used his real birth date and publicity photo for his character in 'The Prisoner.'
He was Albert Broccoli's first choice to play James Bond.
He was considered to replace Peter Falk as Columbo.
He spoofed his 'Prisoner' character in an episode of 'The Simpsons.'
He was successful in film, television, theater and radio.
