Why he might be annoying:

    He left training camp when Giants head coach Jim Lee Howell had trouble finding a position for him, but he was stopped at the airport and talked into returning by assistant coach Vince Lombardi.
    He vowed, ‘As long as I live, I will never forgive Allie Sherman for trading me.’
    He was a spokesperson for Marlboro cigarettes.
    He ran unsuccessfully for a Congressional seat from West Virginia (1970).

    He grew up in a house without running water.
    Giants defensive coordinator Tom Landry built the 4-3 defense around him.
