Baseball Player
    (December 14, 1949-May 27, 2019)
Played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1969-1976), Chicago Cubs (1977-1984), Boston Red Sox (1984-1987, 1990), California Angels (1987-1988) and Kansas City Royals (1988-1989)
    1981 National League All Star
    1980 National League Batting Champion
Holds the major league record for most assists in a season by a first baseman (184 in 1985)
    2715 career hits
    .289 career batting average
He is best remembered for letting a ground ball (hit by Mookie Wilson) go through his legs which enabled the New York Mets to beat his Boston Red Sox in game six of the 1986 World Series.
The Red Sox went on to lose that World Series, and the 'Curse of the Bambino' continued (the term used to describe the fact that the Red Sox haven't won a World Series since they traded away Babe Ruth).
He probably shouldn't have played in that game, since he had very bad knees.
He and his family received so many threats from Red Sox fans, that they eventually moved out of New England to Idaho.
The Red Sox' loss in game six of the 1986 World Series wasn't entirely his fault, as the Red Sox already blew a two-run, two-out, bases-empty bottom of the tenth lead in that game.
Also, had he fielded that ball, the game would have simply gone on to the eleventh inning.
As of 2002, he is 50th on the all time hit list, having more career hits than Hall of Famers Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Reggie Jackson, Ernie Banks and Carlton Fisk.
Despite usually getting a bad rap from Red Sox fans, he was greeted with a standing ovation at Fenway Park in his first home game as a Red Sox player in 1990, after spending a few years with the California (Anaheim) Angels and the Kansas City Royals.
    He is left-handed.
