The Resume

    (September 5, 1899-April 25, 1944)
Served in the Canadian Army during World War I
Wrote the book 'Paths of Glory' (1934)

Why he might be annoying:

His only book, 'Paths of Glory,' is obscure and hard-to-find.
Stanley Kubrick and James B. Harris were unable to check his book out from the New York Public Library. In order to read the book and refresh their minds as to what happens in it, they were forced to read it while at the library.
His widow was 'more than willing' to sell the movie rights to Stanley and James for $10,000.
There are rumors that he did not serve in the Canadian Army.

Why he might not be annoying:

He did not care enough to further pursue a career in writing, mainly because he wanted to keep his life private.
He fought in World War I.
He was so horrified by what he saw during battle that when returned to Canada, he decided to write a novel that spoke out against war.
Stanley Kubrick read 'Paths of Glory' early on as a teenager and was so impressed with it that, years down the line, he decided to make a movie out of it, banking on it becoming a hit.
'Paths of Glory' helped catapult Stanley Kubrick into the mainstream.
