Why he might be annoying
He hid his German background (both parents had immigrated from there) from Jewish tenants by claiming to be Swedish.
He was arrested at a Ku Klux Klan rally for ignoring police orders to disperse (Memorial Day, 1927).
He and a business partner were investigated by a Senate subcommittee for profiteering off public contracts, including overbilling the Federal Housing Administration by $3.7 million on housing for returning veterans (1954).
He was investigated by New York officials over another housing project in which he rented equipment, such as earth movers, from another company that he owned and charged the state several times the standard rate (1966).
The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division filed a lawsuit against him over his refusal to rent to black people (1973).
Why he might not be annoying
He was married to Mary McLeod for 63 years until his death.
He went into the construction business at such a young age that he had to have his mother sign checks for the business.
He instilled a sense of ambition and drive in Donald.
More concretely, he was the co-signer on the loans for Donald’s earliest real estate projects.
At his funeral, his three other surviving children talked about how much they missed him; Donald used it as an opportunity to talk about himself.
