TV Series
    (September 14, 1967-January 16, 1975)
    Based in San Francisco
    Raymond Burr as Robert Ironside
Don Galloway as Det. Sgt. Ed Brown
    Don Mitchell as Mark Sanger
Gene Lyons as Police Commissioner Dennis Randall (1967-1974)
Barbara Anderson as Eve Whitfield (1967-1970)
Elizabeth Baur as Fran Belding (1970-1975)
Joan Pringle as Diana Sanger (1974-1975)
Johnny Seven as Lt. Carl Reese (1969-1975)
    Created by Collier Young
Premise: After some 25 years of service, Chief of Detectives Robert Ironside is forced into ‘retirement' when a murder attempt leaves him unable to walk
Ironside's injury came not on the job but while on vacation!
He would usually have a pot of chili cooking back at his headquarters.
In syndication, it was called ‘The Raymond Burr Show' (as if it were a sitcom).
The last three produced episodes did not air during its original run.
For the reunion movie in 1993, Raymond Burr dyed his hair and his beard red.
Although often addressed as Chief throughout the run, Ironside had actually become a civilian volunteer.
Quincy Jones, who wrote the memorable theme music, made a guest appearance.
The opening montage was neatly done in black shadow.
Appropriately enough, in French it was called L'homme de fer (Man of Iron).
A delinquent Ironside had once arrested; served as his leg-man and driver, got married, and eventually became a judge.
Although he did not let his paralysis deter him, he was not infallible; one episode had him isolate himself from his colleagues and booze heavily.
Except for Gene Lyons (who died in 1974), the entire main cast - including Anderson and Baur - reunited for the 1993 movie.
