Why he might be annoying:

Despite being a prolific writer whose works fill over a hundred volumes, he tends to be remembered solely for ‘Kitty Foyle.’
For that matter, the novel ‘Kitty Foyle’ tends to be remembered less than the bowdlerized movie adaptation that won an Academy Award for Ginger Rogers.
His idea of fun was going to the library and reading the latest dictionaries.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was valedictorian of his class at Haverford College.
He was a founding member of the Sherlock Holmes fan club, the Baker Street Irregulars (1934).
He wrote, ‘There is only one success… to be able to spend your life in your own way.’
